BRSN: What was your mindset going into the last weekend?

Charles: Going into this weekend, I really wanted to end the season on a high note. The rest of the team and I wanted to make a statement with a victory against a solid Columbia team.

BRSN: How did you first get started with  soccer, and what kept you in the sport?

Charles: I grew up in England, where it’s difficult not to get into soccer. Watching pro soccer is what initially gripped me, and then it just became too large a part of my life to stop. Having a brother to play with whenever I wanted definitely helped.

BRSN:Why did you choose Cornell?

Charles: The main reason I chose Cornell was the people in and out of the program. I think that there is a great friendly culture around campus, and I knew that the players on the team were the type of people that I wanted to grow together with. The coaches were also a large reason. They very much sold me on their vision for the program and where they want to take it.

BRSN: What is your greatest soccer memory?

Charles: I think my greatest soccer memory is when my parents took me to watch my favorite team Chelsea play for my fifth birthday. At that point, the players on the team were my idols and who I aspired to be, so it was a magical experience.

BRSN: This sophomore year, you’ve scored 8 goals. What do you think helped you have such an explosive season?

Charles: I think the coaches and other players are the main reason for my success this year. They have pushed me in the off-season and in practice, giving me a better mindset and the skills to succeed this year.

BRSN: The Big Red had a fantastic season  this year. What can you attribute the team’s success to?

Charles: A large part of the success that the team has had this year can be attributed to its hard work on and off the field. This is driven by our coaches and also our captains. Everyone has fully bought into the program, and I look forward to seeing where this takes us in future years.
