Athlete of the Week Interview: Sarah Campbell

BRSN: What was your mindset going into this weekend’s match against UMass?

SC: Going in against UMass it was the last match of the weekend so we were all a little sore and tired. Our mindset was to go out and grind in our matches and give it our all at every position in the lineup in every single point.

BRSN: How did you first get started with tennis, and what kept you in the sport?

SC: I first got started with tennis when I was five years old alongside my younger brother. We grew up playing at a club near my house and one of my coaches helped us develop a love and passion for the game. I have kept that with me. I have made a lot of friends through tennis. Right now I am loving the sport because I get to play for and with my teammates and represent the Big Red!

BRSN: Why did you choose Cornell?

SC: When I first visited Cornell, it just felt like the right college for me. I fell in love with the beauty of the campus and the surrounding area. I thought it would be a great place to study and a fun place to live for four years. Walking around the campus, I could feel the students’ Cornell pride and spirit. When I met the tennis coach and talked to the team captain at the time, I was even more excited about Cornell and CWT. I knew that I wanted tennis to be a part of my college experience, and I am thrilled to be representing Cornell. Let’s go Red!

BRSN: What is your greatest tennis memory?

SC: I have a lot of great tennis memories. Growing up in junior tennis, I’ve made a lot of close friends from my New England section as well as all over the country. My favorite events were always the team events where your opponents become your teammates and you play for something bigger than yourself. Now I get the opportunity to play with the best teammates and some of my best friends at Cornell and I am in the process of making my greatest tennis memories.

BRSN: How do you like to prepare for tournaments?

SC: I like to prepare for tournaments by getting a good night’s sleep for the two nights before a match and having a team dinner the night before a match. On the day of a tournament, we all get to the matches early and pump each other up to get ready!

BRSN: What are your expectations for the rest of the season?

SC: Our expectations for the rest of the season are to keep working every day to get better as a team. We are working to develop our program every day through hard work, discipline, passion, and accountability. We are a young team, and as a team, we have made a lot of progress. Our coaches, Milo and Katie, are super committed to our group and our growth. I am looking forward to see what we can accomplish throughout the rest of our season!
