Athlete of the Week Q&A: Adrian Jones

The BRSN team selects one Cornell athlete each week whose performance stood out among her peers both within the Cornell athletic community and the Ivy League. This week, we caught up with senior track and field captain and sprinter, Adrian Jones, following her outstanding performance at last week’s Ivy Heps.

BRSN: Adrian, thank you for taking the time to speak with us.  What was your mindset going into the Ivy Heps?

AJ: Going into this weekend’s Heps, my mindset was just compete to the best of my ability. I knew that there was going to be tough competition, but I was mentally prepared for the challenge. I was confident going into the conference meet because I trusted my training and knew that anything was possible — I could very well win my events.

BRSN: What is your earliest track memory?

AJ: My earliest track memory would have to be miserably running the mile during my first high school track meet! (lol). I was originally a distance runner, so I can vividly remember contemplating whether or not the distance events, or the sport of track and field in general, were even my thing during that first race. However, I’m glad I stuck with this sport and I gave myself the opportunity to try the sprinting events, which have become my passion ever since.

BRSN: Why did you choose Cornell?

AJ: Once I visited Cornell’s campus, met the coaching staff (specifically Coach Rich Bowman), and got a chance to interact with many members of the team, I knew Cornell was where I wanted to be. I knew that I would receive an amazing education here, and compete for a team that was positive, enthusiastic, and supportive of one another. I had a positive impression of everyone I met, and most of all I felt a sense of genuineness.

BRSN:What is or has been your favorite class at Cornell?

AJ: BSOC/ ANTHR 2468: Medicine, Culture, and Society.

BRSN: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

AJ: I would definitely go to Japan or Australia! I’ve never been and would love to immerse myself in their cultures.

BRSN: What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?

AJ: Most people don’t know that I absolutely love Old School Hip-Hop and R&B.
