Athlete of the Week Q & A: Renee Poullott

Each week, BRSN sits down for a Q & A session with the Athlete of the Week. This week, we caught up with senior women’s lacrosse goalie, Renee Poullott, following her outstanding 10-save performance in the Big Red’s 11-10 victory over #4/5 USC on Sunday.

BRSN: Renee, thanks for taking the time to speak with us. On Sunday, you made 10 saves in Cornell’s 11-10 victory over the #4/5 USC Trojans. How did you prepare for the competition?

RP: Throughout the week, we prepared for the game as per usual. We studied our scouting reports, watched game film, and, ultimately, just learned USC’s personnel and how they like to work on the field. I’m not a very superstitious person, but before each game, I like to get a few shots from the coaches or our attackers, and I am ready to go from there.

BRSN: How did you first get involved in lacrosse?

RP: I began playing lacrosse in the third grade because I was horrible at soccer and basketball. My mom found a lacrosse league in a nearby town, and I absolutely fell in love with it.

BRSN: Why did you choose Cornell?

RP: From the minute I walked on campus, I knew I wanted to be here, something just clicked. Everyone was so welcoming, and I was confident that Cornell would challenge me both academically and athletically.

BRSN: What are you looking forward to the most for the rest of this season?

RP: I am really looking forward to the remainder of our Ivy League competitions. Prior to the season, our team set a goal of winning the regular season and, thus, hosting the Ivy tournament here in Ithaca. I am confident that, as a team, we are willing to put everything on the line and do whatever it takes to achieve that goal.

BRSN: What’s your favorite pregame meal?

RP: My favorite pregame meal includes grilled chicken, ziti, and salad.

BRSN: What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?

RP: Not many people know that I am an only child and that I earned a black belt in karate when I was 13.
