Athlete of the Week Q&A: Ryan Hill

Each week, BRSN selects one Cornell athlete whose performance stood out among his peers both within the Cornell athletic community and the Ivy League. This week, we talk to Ryan Hill, who helped the men’s soccer team to its first win against Brown at home since 1992 with an overtime goal.

BRSN: Ryan, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. What was your mindset going into the game against Brown?

RH: I approached it as the biggest game of the season. Going into the game my focus was on winning my individual battles, and playing fearlessly on both sides of the ball.

BRSN: How did you first get started with soccer, and what kept you in the sport?

RH: My parents signed me up for recreational soccer when I was very young. I stuck with soccer because I truly enjoyed playing. From organized practice, to local pick-up games, to juggling in my garage, I loved it all.

BRSN: Why did you choose Cornell?

RH: Cornell is an amazing school. I knew that whatever academic and/or athletic route I chose, Cornell would allow me to pursue my goals at the very highest level.

BRSN: What is your favorite soccer memory?

RH: My favorite soccer memories are the summer days back home when some of my high school teammates and I would go out to our local field with 30+ soccer balls, blast some music over the stadium speakers, and shoot around on goal for hours.

BRSN: What is your favorite game that you’ve ever played in?

RH: My favorite game that I’ve ever played in was my Cornell debut, this season, against Syracuse.

BRSN: Do you have any pregame superstitions?

RH: I don’t have any pregame superstitions. Although, I do have a short playlist of songs that I like to listen to on my way to the locker room or field before each game.
