This week is arguably this season’s most important week of hockey thus far with the women entering the NCAA tournament and the men playing their first games of the ECAC playoffs.
The women’s team will head back to Potsdam this Saturday to face the Golden Knights for the second straight weekend. Last week, Cornell fell to Clarkson in a closely contested 1-0 game, but will look for revenge in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
The rematch will be a similar story in terms of low scoring; however, this week senior goalkeeper Paula Voorheis will have the upperhand. The Big Red will win this matchup 2-0 against Clarkson, sending Cornell into the next round of the NCAA tournament.
The men’s team will also play Clarkson but fortunately for the men, at home at Lynah Rink. With a 7-3-3 record at home, the men’s team is certainly comfortable in Ithaca, despite both regular season matchups between the two sides ended in 3-3 ties.
Coming off their bye week, the Big Red will start off a little slow giving up an early one goal lead to the Golden Knights. But, after some adjustment time the Big Red skaters will take Game 1 in a 3-2 victory for Cornell. Game 2 will feature some solid goaltending by Mitch Gillam, giving Cornell another victory at 3-1, and the sweep of the ECAC playoff quarterfinals.
