Although the regular season is winding down for both men’s and women’s hockey, there is still some important ECAC hockey to be played:
The women’s team will play its final two games of the regular season this weekend after clinching the Ivy League title last weekend in its tie against Yale and win over Brown. Despite the pride the Big Red is touting since winning the title, the team faces two formidable opponents in #5 St. Lawrence University and #3 Clarkson University.
The rankings are not in Cornell’s favor, but the Big Red are 12-1-1 this season at home. I predict the women will split their Senior Weekend, pulling off the upset against SLU winning 3-2 in overtime, but will fall short against Clarkson in a 3-1 outcome.
The men’s team will be away for their penultimate weekend in the regular season, taking on SLU on Friday and Clarkson on Saturday. The SLU matchup is of utmost importance for both squads as Cornell and St. Lawrence are tied for third place in ECAC standings. Both are still in contention for the Cleary Cup, awarded to the ECAC’s regular-season champion.
The SLU game will be closely contested, but the Big Red will pull away in the third period with a 4-2 victory. The game against #6 Clarkson will not be as close and Cornell will finish with an easy victory, 5-1, to sweep the weekend.
